Major International Airlines
Major International airlines on average delivered 78.67% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in April, down slightly from March’s 78.76%. Cancellations for the group in April were 1.12%, down from 1.35% last month. Four major international carriers: (AY)Finnair, (VO) Tyrolean Airways, (U2) easyJet, and (SA) South African, delivered over 90% of their flights on time.

North American Airlines
Despite late snowstorms, the weeklong FAA furloughs, and the Boston Marathon bombing, air traffic performance in North America remained as a whole, remarkably constant with March’s rate. North American airlines, on average, delivered 78.27% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in April compared with 79.04% in March. The group’s cancellations increased to 1.85% from 1.81%. (HA) Hawaiian led overall in North America and (AS) Alaska led the majors again with 86.88% on-time performance.

A mix of major and regional European airlines turned in really strong performances in April. (TF) Malmo Aviation again took the top spot delivering 95.93% of its flights on time. In April all the airlines in the top 10 had over 91% of their flights to the gate on time. The OTP for the group was 85.05%, up from 80.54% in March. Cancellations for the group were 1.16% down from March’s cancellations of 1.94%. (UT) Utair Aviation had the highest percentage of cancellations at 5.59%.

Asian AirlinesOf the top ten Asian airline on time performers, five delivered greater than 90% of their flights to the gate on time in April. The average on-time performance rating among the 41 Asian airlines we analyzed was 69.83%, down from March’s 72.44%. Cancellations for the group were 1.47%.

Major International Airports
(HND) Tokyo’s Haneda kept the top spot among the world’s busiest airports with an on-time performance of 92.34%. In April, five North American airports, three European airports, and two Asian Airports were in the top ten. The average on-time departure performance among the top 35 international airports was 74.26% down slightly from March’s rate of 74.59% and cancellations for the group were 1.77% up from March’s rate of 1.35%.

North American Airports(YVR) Vancouver took the top spot with 88.63% on-time departure performance in April. The average on-time departure performance for the group was 78.86% down slightly from March’s 79.92%. Cancellations for the group were 1.77%.

(SAW) Istanbul kept Europe’s top spot with a 93.92% on-time departure performance in April. Only two of the top ten had an average that exceeded 90%. The average on-time departure performance for the group was 77.38%, up significantly from March’s 70.67%. Cancellations for the group were 1.15%, down from March’s 1.96%.

(ITM) Osaka International Airport leads Asian airports with 95.56% on-time departure performance in April. Five of the top ten airports had on-time departure performance rates that exceeded 90%. The average on-time departure performance for the group was 57.40% down from 58.84% in March. Cancellations for the group were at 1.63%.
