North American airlines, on average, delivered 78.78% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in May, down from April’s 81.32%. Cancellations remained at just over 1%. Alaska/Horizon continued to demonstrate operational excellence with Horizon leading all airlines at 94.34% on-time performance and Alaska atop the major airline category with 90.75%. With Cimber Sterling airlines leading the way, all of the top 10 European performers exceeded 90% on-time arrivals in May (the second straight month of > 90% on-time arrival performance). SAS led the major carriers with 92.38% on-time arrivals. May was a solid month for European carriers with an average OTP of 84.54%, up from 80.58% in April, and from 84.42% in March. ANA Wings led Asian carriers with 94.78% on-time arrivals with Tiger Airways and Hokkaido International joining JAL and ANA carriers to round out the top 10. The average on-time performance rating among the 38 airlines we analyzed in May was 75.9%, up substantially from April’s 69.71%, and from 73.46% in March. Tokyo’s Haneda sits alone atop large, global airports in May with an on-time performance rating of 94.73%. All of the top 10 exceeded 80% on-time departure levels. The average on-time departure performance among the top 30 airports in May was 75.55% up from April’s 74.86%, and from March’s 75.31%. The top 10 performers among the world’s busiest airports were:
SLC, SEA, and PDX outperformed their North American counterparts in May, all three with over 90% on-time departures. The average on-time departure performance for the group in May was 82.07%, down from April’s 84.87%, and ahead of March’s 80.63%.
