(EWR) Newark Liberty International Airport is located approximately 15 miles southwest of New York City in Newark, New Jersey. In 2005, EWR handled almost 34 million passengers making it the twenty-second busiest airport in the world. EWR is also one the busiest international airports in the United States. The airport was renamed from Newark International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport in memory of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. The "Liberty" refers to the Statue Of Liberty which located nearby.
