(BCN) Barcelona-El Prat Airport Overview

Barcelona-El Prat Airport (airport code BCN) is located southwest of Barcelona and is just 3 kilometers from the Port of Barcelona, a major Mediterranean container port. It serves the metropolitan area of Barcelona and El Prat. Although there has been a runway in place since 1916, Barcelona Airport didn't take off until the 1992 Olympics. The airport underwent major renovations to handle the 10 million travelers who attended. This refurbishment continues to today with the 2009 remodel of Terminal T1 while Terminal T2 is undergoing remodeling today to serve the 30 million passengers the airports now receives. There is also a new Corporate Aviation Terminal for business travelers and includes VIP lounges, meeting rooms and business center. To get into Barcelona proper from the airport, passengers can use the Aerobus, which departs from all three terminals. Travelers can also use the rail service or hire a taxi or rental car.
