Guarulhos International Airport (airport code GRU) is officially called Governador Andre Franco Montoro International Airport and is Sao Paulo, Brazil’s busiest airport handling over 39 million passengers in 2014. Located 30 kilometers northeast of the city, the Tropic of Capricorn intersects the airport’s southern tip. Locals refer to it as Cumbica Airport after the suburb it occupies. With the newly constructed Terminal 3, Guarulhos Airport now has four terminals, Terminal 1 with Wings A and B, Terminal 2 with Wings D and C, Terminal 3, and Terminal 4. Over the coming years, the airport plans to retrofit the existing Terminal 1 and 2, undergo apron and runway improvements and provide better accessibility to the city centre through the integration with Sao Paulo broader rail network.
