Marrakech-Menara Airport (airport code RAK) is located 6 kilometers southwest of the center of Marrakech in central Morocco. The airport has two terminals, 1 and 2. Terminal 1 opened in 2008 and is partially powered by solar energy. As one of Africa's Top 20 busiest airports, Marrakech handles almost 3 million passengers per year. Transport into the city is by public bus, car rental or taxi. Originally a US Army Air Force Base during World War II, over 50 air carriers provide service to travelers from Arabia and Europe. Flights from North America transfer from Casablanca. In case of a medical emergency, Marrakech Airport has nurses on duty 24/7.
