Real-time Flight Tracker Released!

We are proud to release some new features for the site!

Over the last year we have had many requests from the FlightStats community for a real-time US flight tracker. Sure, we have always shown the current position of a flight on a Google map, but it did not refresh unless the page was refreshed. Well that map is still there on our flight status page, but now you can also start up our new Flight Tracker and watch the flight as it moves across the United States or Canada. The new flight tracker combines the power of Google Maps with our up-to-the minute flight data to show you the exact location of the flight over a standard, satellite or hybrid map of North America.

The interactive Web application refreshes automatically as the flight progresses. Companion screens show weather information in both the arrival and departure cities and alert you to any airport delays that might affect the flight. Flight information displayed below the map includes the historical on-time arrival rating for the monitored flight, its scheduled and actual departure time, and its estimated arrival time. See Flight Tracker for more details.

We are still hard at work at adding more and coverage. But we are not perfect and there are a lot of flights out there and sometimes we just do not have the data sources to track a flight. We typically show the term Unknown as the status for these flights. Not surprisingly this has confused a lot of the FlightStats Community. Our new flight status by flight page now attempts to explain situations like this. Hopefully, this will aid in understanding and also help set expectations correctly.

We are also very proud to announce a couple new FlightStats weblets. In this round, we have focused hard on coming up with some attractive US Airport Delay weblets that can be added to your website free of charge. You can see these new weblets in the weblet section of the Syndication Center.

Thank you very much for helping make FlightStats.com a success!
