FlightStats.com has emerged to become the best source for real time information on global commercial flight status - helping business and leisure travelers make good choices and cope with ever-worsening travel conditions. The site publishes data from a variety of sources, including travelers themselves, to paint an accurate picture of current travel conditions for the entire airline network, delays at specific airports and the status of specific flights world wide. The company tracks over 150,000 flights each day amassing a wealth of data on real time and historical flight performance. FlightStats data is available free to the public and powers the flight status search results for Google, Yahoo, and a host of other web and mobile services.

"We are thrilled to be among the finalists in the search and reference category. Our selection points to the growing importance of specialty search providers that go narrow and deep to provide highly useful data where and when it is needed most," said David White, VP of business development for FlightStats.com.

The ten categories include Audio (music, podcasts, and audiobooks); Browsing (browsers, start pages, RSS readers, widgets, and runtime engines); Commerce and Events (retail, auctions, travel, real estate, concerts, and conferences); Communications (e-mail, chat, and voice); Productivity (app suites, to-do lists, and groupware); Publishing and photography (blogging, content management, and photo sites); Search and Reference (search engines, encyclopedias, and mapping); Social (social networking, family sites, recommendations, online worlds, and contests); Utility and Security (infrastructure providers, storage, and online protection); and Video (video storage, playback, streaming, editing, and animation).

Winners will be invited to celebrate at Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco (http://www.web2expo.com/) held April 22-25 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco. Web 2.0 Expo is the official partner of the 2008 Webware 100 Awards.
