FlightStats January 2013 On-time Performance Report
Japan Airlines was the only major international carrier to deliver over 90% of their flights on time.

Major International airlines on average delivered 78.27% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in January. Cancellations for the group in January were 1.45%. Japan Airlines was the only major international carrier to deliver over 90% of their flights on time. The top ten performing Global airlines and their on-time percentages in January were:

North American airlines, on average, delivered 79.21% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in January compared with 72.60% in December. The group had only 1.9% of their flights cancelled. North America's top ten performing airlines and their on-time percentages in December were:

Delta led the majors again in January. Here's how the North American major carriers on-time arrival percentages compared:

(B6) Jetblue 78.91%

A mix of major and regional European airlines turned in strong performances in January including Aegean Airlines, NAYASA, Germanwings, Vueling Airlines, and Air One CityLiner. In January half of the top 10 had at least 90% of their flights to the gate on time. The OTP for the group was 80.67% in January, up from 76.62% in December. Cancellations for January were 2.55% for the group. The top ten on-time arrival performers among European carriers were:

(ZN) NAYSA 93.82%

(4U) Germanwings 93.46%

(VY) Vueling Airlines 92.57%

(CT) Air One CityLiner 90.00%

(OA) Olympic Air 89.65%

(DB) Brit Air 88.47%

(EI) Aer Lingus 87.93%

(WA) KLM Cityhopper 86.72%

(BT) airBaltic 86.65%

 

 

Of the top ten Asian airline on time performers, four delivered greater than 90% of their flights to the gate on-time in January. The average on-time performance rating among the 35 Asian airlines we analyzed in January was 72.15% up slightly from December’s 71.18%. Cancellations for the group were only .59%. Here are the top ten on-time arrival performers among Asian carriers:

(MH) Malaysia Airlines 83.13%

 

 

Though nine North American airports were in the top ten, Tokyo's Haneda continues to outperform the rest of the world's busiest airports while posting a 92.62% on-time departure performance in January. The average on-time departure performance among the top 35 international airports in January was 74.73% and cancellations for the group were 1.79%. The top ten performers among the world's busiest airports were:

Atlanta (ATL) 85.44%

Boston (BOS) 85.40%

HNL Honolulu International Airport took the top spot with 88.03% on-time departure performance in January. The average on-time departure performance for the group in January was 80.31% up 4.28 percentage points from December’s 76.03%. Cancellations for the group were 1.61%. Here is a summary of the on-time departure performance for the ten best performing large North American airports:

PMI Palma de Mallorca Airport captured Europe’s top spot with a 91.08% on-time departure performance in January. The average on-time departure performance for the group in January was 71.79%. Cancellations for the group were 2.57%. The on-time departure performance results for the ten best performing large European airports is as follows:

ITM Osaka International Airport leads Asian airports with 95.98% on-time departure performance in January. The average on-time departure performance for the group in January was 57.97%. Cancellations for the group were at .71%. The on-time departure performance for the ten best performing large Asian airports is as follows:
