Major International airlines on average delivered 80.70% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in May, up from April’s 78.67% . Cancellations for the group were 1.09%, down a fraction from 1.12% last month. Five major international carriers: (AY) Finnair, (SA) South African, (GF) Gulf Air, (NH) ANA, and (U2) EasyJet delivered over 90% of their flights on time.

After the headlines of all the delays in April due to FAA furloughs, May’s air traffic performance in North America remained quite constant with the previous two months. North American airlines, on average, delivered 79.98% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in May compared with 78.27% in April and 79.04% in March. The group’s cancellations decreased to 1.29% down from 1.85%. (5D) Aeroméxico led overall in North America with 93.02%, and (AS) Alaska led the majors again with 89.57% on-time performance.

A mix of major and regional European airlines turned in really strong performances in May. (NT) Binter Canarias again took the top spot delivering 98.25% of its flights on time. Notably, 17 of the 50 airlines we evaluated had over 90% of their flights to the gate on time. The OTP for the group was 85.09%. Cancellations for the group were 1.11%. (WF) Widerøe’s had the highest percentage of cancellations at 15.64%.

(HND) Tokyo's Haneda maintained its top spot among the world’s busiest airports with an on-time performance of 93.82%. In May, five North American airports, three European airports, and two Asian Airports were in the top ten. The average on-time departure performance among the top 35 international airports was 74.92% up slightly from April’s rate of 74.26% and cancellations for the group were 1.31% down from April’s rate of 1.77%.

(YVR) Vancouver took the top spot with 91.41% on-time departure performance in May. The average on-time departure performance for the group was 79.89% up slightly from April’s 78.86%. Cancellations for the group were 1.17%.

(OSL) Oslo took Europe’s top spot with a 89.33% on-time departure performance in May. The average on-time departure performance for the group was 76.24%, down slightly from April’s 77.38%. Cancellations for the group were .80%, down from April’s 1.15%.

(ITM) Osaka International Airport leads Asian airports with 97.40% on-time departure performance in May. Eight of the top ten airports had on-time departure performance rates that exceeded 90%. The average on-time departure performance for the group was 57.61% up slightly from 57.40% in April. Cancellations for the group were at 2.32% up from 1.63% the previous month.
